Hot Split Transfers

Create the ultimate vintage, ultra-soft finish on your t-shirts with our hot split transfers that blend seamlessly into the fabric.

Purpose and Application

It ensures long-lasting durability and an excellent appearance, especially on garments that are frequently washed or exposed to high temperatures. This type of heat transfer is primarily suitable for:

  • white cotton T-shirts
  • light-colored garments made of 100% cotton
  • other white cotton products that can withstand high transfer temperatures

The transfer is not suitable for dark fabrics, as its composition requires a light base to achieve an optimal visual result. The design of the print needs to be bold and not too detailed.

Excellent Wash Resistance

Thanks to its special formulation, hot split transfer withstands washing at high temperatures up to 90 °C. This ensures that the design remains durable and intact even after numerous washing cycles.

Application Instructions

For optimal transfer performance, follow these parameters:

  • Temperature: 195–205 °C
  • Time: 9–12 seconds
  • Peel: hot peel

Frequently Asked Questions

A hot split transfer is designed so that the ink “splits” when peeled hot—part of the ink stays on the paper, and part melts deeply into the garment.

It leaves an ultra-soft, matte, and slightly faded finish that perfectly replicates a vintage or retro screen print.

No, hot split transfers have almost zero hand feel. The ink becomes one with the fabric, resulting in an incredibly breathable shirt.

Because the ink splits and is absorbed, they are highly recommended for white and light-colored cotton garments where opacity is not the main priority.

Traditional hot split transfers do not use a heavy white underbase, which is why they achieve such a breathable, soft texture.

Like hot peel, it must be peeled instantly and quickly immediately after the heat press opens.

Because the ink penetrates the fabric fibers rather than sitting on top as a solid layer, hot split transfers rarely crack.

100% cotton is ideal, as the natural fibers absorb the hot split plastisol ink beautifully.

Yes, the immediate hot peeling process makes it exceptionally fast for commercial and high-volume custom apparel production.

Yes, they offer incredible washability and actually become softer and more vintage-looking over time with repeated washing.

While colors are bright, the intentional splitting process naturally mutes them slightly to create that sought-after retro aesthetic.

To achieve an authentic vintage look, use Andi Textile Printing’s hot split transfers. The splitting action leaves a thin, ultra-soft layer of ink that mimics the faded, worn-in look of a decades-old screen-printed t-shirt.

Standard hot peel transfers release 100% of the ink onto the shirt for maximum opacity. Hot split transfers only release about 80-90% of the ink, intentionally leaving the rest on the paper to create a zero-feel, breathable print.

Blotchy hot split prints are typically caused by uneven pressure or cold spots on the heat press platen. The ink requires perfectly uniform heat and heavy pressure to split evenly across the entire design.

Because hot split transfers deposit a fraction of the ink and contain no heavy adhesives or underbases, they do not block the fabric’s pores, allowing airflow and comfort for summer wear.
