Characteristics of Softshell and Technical Materials
Softshell and most technical garments are typically made from polyester fibers or their combinations. These materials are resistant to weather, stretching, and mechanical stress, which also makes them more challenging to print. Printing on softshell and technical garments requires advanced knowledge and adapted technological solutions. These materials are designed for performance, durability, and protection – and the print must meet the same standards. Their structure and composition require a precisely adapted heat transfer process.
The Challenge of Dye Migration
As with other polyester products, heating during the transfer process can reactivate polyester dyes. This may cause dye migration from the fabric into the print, leading to unwanted discoloration, shade changes, or loss of contrast. Without proper protection, the final result can be unpredictable.
